Examines the Studies of Facial Wounds - a series of 72 pastel drawings that Henry Tonks made in 1916, showing the disfigurements suffered by British soldiers in World War I (London, Royal College of Surgeons of England). Considers their connection to the facial dislocations of modern art. Assesses Tonks's technique.
