Abstract
(en)
Contributions explore the processes involved in, and the political consequences of, museum display. Focuses on contemporary and historical museums and exhibitions of science, broadly conceived, in context of the flourishing interest in cultural perspectives on both museums and science as part of a broader critique of modernity and its technologies of truth production. Charts the changing relationship between displays and their audience and analyses the consequent shift in styles of representation. Examples are taken from exhibitions of science, technology and industry, anthopology, geology, natural history and medicine, from around the world. The book began life as a special issue of the journal Science as culture. Many of the chapters originally published there have been revised, and additional chapters added.
