Abstract (en)

Challenges received images of the Victorian city. Pictorial evidence confirms that respectable women routinely walked around on their own, and shows that social and moral identities were more diverse than the simple categories of pure and fallen will allow. Notes the concomitant establishment of new categories of urban space.
