In 1857 the British authorities in Delhi assumed control of the royal estates of Bahadur Shar II, the deposed emperor. Looks at the way in which the gardens and their associated buildings and features, mostly dating from the founding of the city by the Emperor Shahjahan, were treated and managed by the British over a period of about 90 years, examining the way in which the approach to their conservation changed in the decades following the Mutiny.
