On Masaccio's lost fresco (Consecration of the Church of S. Maria del Carmine, Florence; ca.1424) from the cloister of S. Maria del Carmine, Florence. The work was destroyed (or covered), late 16th c. Examines Renaissance descriptions and 16th c. drawings of the work. Appendix: sources and writings (late 15th-20th c.) on Masaccio and the lost fresco.
