Identifies the subject of Gian Lorenzo Bernini's drawing (Leipzig, Museum der bildenden Künste) of a nude male figure as David. Argues that the depicted episode is that of David choosing stones for his slingshot to use against Goliath. Suggests that this unusual subject was chosen by pope Urban VIII for whom the Biblical David story had a special significance.
