Surveys the history of the front of Salisbury cathedral, in light of the conservation programme funded by the Salisbury Cathedral Trust and English Heritage. A comprehensive introduction (Tim Tatton-Brown), is followed by a discussion of the medieval period (Tim Ayers and Jerry Sampson), the Reformation to the 20th c. (Jerry Sampson, Emma Hardy and Tim Ayers), polychromy (Eddie Sinclair), photography and the west front in the mid-19th c. (Anthony Hamber), and conservation and repair, 1994-2000 (Michael Drury and Nicholas Durnan). Includes an illustrated catalogue of the sculpture.
