Reports on the recent growth of interest internationally in contemporary African art, fostered at least in part by a growing recognition on the part of curators and exhibition organizers that displays of art from the continent need not be limited to traditional, tribal material. Suggests that the reception has also been heightened because many of the new artists are creating art that transcends the political and makes statements about identity that can be understood in a global context.
