Investigates the use of ambiguous terminology in the study of architectural history, focusing on three areas of confusion: non-specialist versus specialist language; words with two different meanings; and terms which distort an original intention. Cites as examples the words Norman, belfry, choir, gallery, cylindrical pier, castle, and garderobe.
