Abstract (en)
Discusses the Incohérence movement (1882-1887) in Paris, which exhibited works that parodied the format, technique, subject matter, and style of the art displayed at the Salons and other official art venues. Associates Incohérence, along with the Hydropathes and Chat Noiristes, with the nationalistic and reactionary political culture of the 1880s, rather than with the early 20th-c. avant-garde.
