Abstract
(en)
Presents some possible lines of investigation for the history of Mexican art, ones that would facilitate a political history of images. Focuses on Mexican mural painting and the associated rhetoric, drawing on texts and images. Argues that muralism, the "art of the public," was ultimately devoured by the public discourse transmitted by means of mass communication (e.g., films, commercial illustrations). Observes further that public discourse has changed and is no longer chiefly concerned with the making of the individual and citizen, as it was in the 20th c.
