Discusses two images from the life of Hercules and a border painting in a kyriale (ca.1500; New Haven, Yale University, Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library MS 710) commissioned by the Dominican convent of S. Pedro Mártir in Toledo, which were modeled after Albrecht Dürer's engraving Das Meerwunder. Considers the significance of Hercules in Spain in general and Toledo in particular.
