Traces the history of the restoration of the originally Romanesque church, focusing on the restoration activity from 1807 to the mid-1870s. Situates the restoration, and the participants engaged in it, in the context of 19th-c. restoration theory and practice and the growing scholarly understanding of medieval architectural history.
