Abstract (en)
Emphasizes the merits of an iconological and non-biographical approach to 18th-c. French genre painting by considering two types of genre scenes by François Boucher: game-playing scenes and rustic genre scenes (bambochade). Erotic signification in these types is discussed and the symbolism of the cabbage in the latter type is also given focus.
