Reassesses the chronology of Hans Rottenhammer's time in Venice and Rome based on a previously unpublished document. Other documents provide more details of the life of Pietro Mera, another Flemish painter living in Venice. These documents confirm that the exchange between northern Europe and Italy was frequent and intense in the late 16th c. Appendix: three documents.
