Abstract (en)
Examines four discussions of modern design--by Robert Smithson, Yve-Alain Bois, Caroline Constant, and Elizabeth Meyer--which shed light on the picturesque in both criticism and historiography. Submits that the various modes of fracture or fragmentation in the original picturesque are features invoked by the writers in their understanding of modern sculpture, architecture, and landscape architecture.
