Defends Pierre Coecke's authorship of the eight-piece tapestry Story of Joshua (Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum) made for Charles V of Spain. Describes its commission, Brussels weaving tradition, Dermoyen family studio (its manufacturer), their mark, and the vividly rendered depictions of episodes from the Book of Joshua. Stylistic analysis, archival documents, and comparison with similar cartoons by Coecke (who was known to have worked under the auspices of the Dermoyens) affirms his authorship, and presents the possibility that the Vienna tapestry is a revised version of one produced for Francois I in 1538. An appendix with relevant commission documents, especially letters to Jean Dermoyen on the emperor's behalf, follows.
