Abstract
(en)
Provides a brief look at the artistic life of the Mexican-born painter, noting the importance of the themes of death and suffering in her oeuvre. Asserts that Kahlo, like many of her European surrealist contemporaries, developed a language of direct, spontaneous pictorial expression of the individual unconscious. Emphasizes the influence of her gender and political ideology on her work.
