Abstract
(en)
Describes evidence of the (creator's) intention to involve other senses than sight in southern African rock engravings. Explains that in San parietal art, techniques of hammering, rubbing, cutting, and flaking appealed to the senses of sound and touch, and further, evoked the spiritual potency (and even possession) of a place. Highlights gong rocks (large natural boulders), shamanism, and interpersonal relations.
