Abstract (en)
The author, curator of Women beyond borders: the art of building community, organized by the UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History and the University Art Museum of UCSB (2001/2002), reflects upon the international art project to which the ten-year retrospective exhibition was dedicated. Women beyond borders was founded in Santa Barbara in 1991 by a group of local artists and art professionals who sent out prototype boxes with which women artists could work, hoping to explore cultural exchange in a feminist context.
