Abstract (en)
Chronicles the achievements of the French-born mulatto lithographer who came to New Orleans in 1836. Notes the impact of publications, trade, urban growth, and race-relations on his opportunities and choices as an artist. Emphasizes his portraits and daguerreotype city views, the latter of which are non-extant but enhanced his technique as he copied these for surviving lithographs.
