Abstract (en)

Looks at the documents (such as account books and other archival materials) pertaining to silk weaver Iacopo di Tedesco's career as a case study in the Florentine silk industry's late-15th-early-16th-c. production process. Describes how Iacopo became successful in spite of political crises and extensive guild controls. Considers the roles of merchant-banks and textile firms in providing the proper capital and material resources (eg., fabrics, looms); clientele; remuneration and cost of living (including shop and personal expenses); and division of labor.
