Abstract
(en)
Categorizes Berlin secessionism as an impressionist perspective of passive distance with respect to subject matter taken from daily life. Qualifies impressionism as a way of life, focusing on the attitude of artists towards their iconographic subject matter of distinguished portraits, women, children, houses, parks and gardens, interiors, still lifes, ports, and landscapes. Attributes the fall of impressionism to changed attitudes regarding the artist's responsibility to society following the First World War.
