Abstract (en)
Examines changes in Christian iconography accompanying the Catholic church's 11th-c. reform in southern Italy and Rome, focusing on the programs of mosaics, frescoes, and painted altar panels. Differentiates between the wealthy patrons of southern Italy and the monastic groups and laity of Rome, with the former's financial limitations creating a disparity between the extensive renovations of the south and the redecoration, primarily frescoes, of Rome.
