Abstract (en)
Contextualizes the rise of goldsmithing in Helmarshausen within the political and religious struggles of the 12th c. via a stylistic and aesthetic analysis of the Paderborn Dom-Tragaltar (1120-1127; Paderborn, Diözesanmuseum), comparing it to the Adbinghof-Tragaltar (1120-1130; Paderborn, Diözesanmuseum) and other fine metalwork likely originating in Helmarshausen. Focuses on the antique Roman and Byzantine influence on iconography and the 12th-c. turn towards more realistic representation.
