Abstract (en)
On Alfred Stieglitz's reconciling of his elitist ambitions with the low-culture medium of photography. Contends that in Stieglitz's photographs of New York he emphasized the formal and the aesthetic over the social (such as urban conflicts) thus overcoming the medium's low status.
