Asks whether the focus on good, robust design and demands for teaching art, architecture, decorative art, and practical trades under one roof at the Statens håndverks- og kunstindustriskole (SHKS) in Oslo (The National School of Craft and Applied Art) has been based on thoughts and ideas deriving from Bauhaus, and assesses several equally influential national and international trends in the 19th and 20th cs. Compares Norwegian design teaching from 1918 to 1952 to Bauhaus and mentions initiatives by the Christiania Guild of Goldsmiths in 1904, by the goldsmith Gustav Gaudernack in 1906, and the writings (1918-1920) by the goldsmith Jacob Prytz, among others in the Applied Art Association's Yearbook.
