Abstract (en)
Examines the 14th-16th-c. history of the Palazzo dei duchi Acquaviva in Atri and the court of the Acquaviva family, and summarizes the results of excavations (1993-1994) at the palace that revealed ancient-16th-c. pottery, including late 14th-16th-c. sgraffito slipwares. Also reports on the late 20th-c. excavation near the Roman theater in Atri that shed light on the medieval-19th-c. urbanism of this area. Analyzes the forms and decoration of the locally produced and imported late 14th-16th-c. graffito and slip-coated earthenware found at the site. The imported wares are from Padua, Ferrara, Salerno, Castelli, and Penne. Includes catalogue entries for 56 pieces.
