Presents observations on the theoretical and methodological approach and the results of the early 21st-c. restoration of four 14th-c. Florentine panel paintings by Puccio di Simone (including the Madonna of Humility with Saints, Florence, Galleria dell'Accademia) and others. The restoration removed repainting by earlier conservators that had (in some cases significantly) altered the pictorial surface.
