Abstract (en)
Surveys the 15th-c. humanist cultural milieu in Montagnana, then under the dominion of Venice, and focuses on the architecture and art of the cathedral (rebuilt 1431-1502; architect: Cristoforo da Bolzano). Describes the decoration of the Cappella della Madonna del Rosario, which has an apse painted with a astrological subjects. Studies the myths, constellations, and symbols represented, noting the unusual representation of an eclipse (shown in the sign of Leo). Compares and contrasts it with late 14th-16th-c. astrological cycles in Padua, Florence, Mantua, Rome, and Caprarola.
