Abstract (en)
Traces the late 13th-15th-c. history of the Ospedale dei SS. Niccolò e Gregorio in Sasso, Siena, a no-longer extant hospital that was founded in the 1270s by a woman named Agnese, and administered by lay women. (The church of S. Niccolò in Sasso, which was part of the complex, still survives.) Includes considerations on the 13th-15th-c. architecture (and its enlargement), and the late medieval urban surroundings of the complex, which was located near the cathedral of Siena.
