Examines the various methods used by 17th-c. Dutch painters to render the figures' contours, in relation to the modeling of forms, and the illusion of depth. Focuses on four artists who contributed to the decoration of the Oranjezaal at Huis ten Bosch in The Hague: Salomon de Bray, Gerrit van Honthorst, Caesar Boetius van Everdingen, and Theodoor van Thulden.
