Abstract
(en)
Discusses the reception of Schiller's Die Räuber ("The Robbers") in Great Britain. Argues that the enthusiasm for the tragedy should be seen in the context of the revaluation of the figure of Satan in Milton's Paradise Lost, which occurred simultaneously in the 1790s, particularly through paintings and drawing by Fuseli, and through poems and designs by William Blake. Also discusses the meaning of Blake's and Shelley's revolt against the conception of a father godhead.
