Abstract (en)
Festschrift for the American historian, including one contribution in scope: "Possessing Antiquity : agency and sociability in building Lorenzo de' Medici's gem collection", by Melissa Meriam Bullard (p. 85-111). Discusses how Lorenzo de' Medici built up his collection of ancient gems, including the Tazza Farnese and the so-called Seal of Nero (both in Naples, Museo Archeologico Nazionale) through agents and other informants. Argues that the gems functioned as virtuous objects reflecting not only Lorenzo's cultural taste and domestic settings, but also Renaissance finances, social relations, and diplomacy.
