Abstract
(en)
Argues that Italian futurism painting and literature can be seen as an effort to disrupt the cultural hegemony of France at the beginning of the 20th c., and that the reception of futurism by French criticism has been, and to a certain extent still is, tinted by nationalism. Contrasts the reception of futurism in France with that in Britain and Russia. Nationalism is one of the chief motivations not only of futurism, but of the historical avant-garde in general.
