Discusses the mural paintings of Christ's Passion in Notre-Dame-des-Fontaines, La Brigue, by the Piedmontese painter and priest Giovanni Canavesio. Argues that the strategies he employed to convey meaning and to structure the spectators' experience are also informed by his priestly training, and that they reflect mental structures derived from the "ars praedicandi".
