Abstract (en)
Discusses Tijuana's unique cultural position as a controversial geopolitical site, comparing its urban conditions and changes to those of San Diego. Notes how the city of Tijuana is constantly in flux, particularly through the population's migration to the United States and the transport of "leftover" homes from San Diego. Suggests that, in spite of utopian ideals among artists and architects, the border zone is becoming an increasingly precarious example of a global metropolis marked by homogenization, exclusion, displacement, privatization, and security concerns.
